God Fills in the Gaps

Have you ever laid your head on the pillow at night and thought, “Did I do enough today? Was I enough today? Did I ruin my kid’s life because I didn’t help with the science project or feed them an actual vegetable?” Or maybe your worry sounds more like, “Will they be okay out there in the real world? Did I prepare them? Will someone please teach my son how to iron a shirt?”

Whether you’re a mom in the thick of it, a grandmother watching your kids raise their own, a woman building a career while managing a household, or just a soul who feels like she’s holding too many plates and dropping a few...this is for you.

Because you don’t have to be everything to everyone.

You don’t even have to be “enough.”

You just have to be willing.

Because God fills in the gaps.

The Myth of “Enough”

Somewhere along the line, someone sold us a lie: that we had to be all things to all people at all times.

Pinterest-perfect meals, perfect bodies, spotless homes, thriving children, romantic marriages, fulfilling careers, glowing skin, and perfect outfits. And when we fall short, and we will, we quietly carry guilt. It piles up. We smile through it. We compare ourselves to women on social media who clearly have color-coded calendars, matching throw pillows, and children who eat squash voluntarily.

But what you don’t see in those highlight reels are the gaps. We all have gaps. We miss things. We forget things. We lose our cool. We struggle. We second-guess. We wonder if we’re totally messing up the people we love the most. And yet, somehow, miraculously, life goes on.

Our kids grow.

People heal.

Love shows up.

Joy sneaks in.

Peace settles in unexpected moments.

Not because we nailed it, but because God showed up and filled in the gaps.

The Homeschool Years and the Great Fear of Ruining Everything

When I homeschooled my kids, I lived with a constant hum of anxiety most days. I worried they weren’t learning enough. Or that I was teaching them the wrong things. Or that someday a college admissions board would look at their application and say, “Wait…you learned fractions from your mom? Pass.”

I prayed over lesson plans and felt like I was throwing spaghetti at the wall, sometimes literally. (Science experiments can get messy.) But now, looking back, I can see that despite all my worries and imperfections, God showed up. He showed up in their curiosity. In their growth. In their relationships. In their resilience.

And I realized that I was never expected to be their everything. I was just invited to show up and do what I could. God filled in the rest.

For the Women Who Feel Inadequate

Maybe you’re not a mom. Maybe you’re in a demanding job where you feel unseen and undervalued. Or you’re a grandmother wondering if you did enough when your kids were young and still find yourself carrying that weight. Or maybe you’re somewhere in between, wondering what your purpose is now, feeling a little lost in the shuffle.

You were never meant to carry the whole load. You weren’t created to do it all in your own strength.

And that feeling of “I’m not enough”? That’s not a flaw. That’s a signal or even an invitation to lean on the One who is. God never asked you to be superhuman. He just asks for your yes. Your presence. Your willingness.

The God Who Multiplies Loaves and Effort

Do you remember the story of the five loaves and two fish? A little boy shows up with a lunchbox, and Jesus feeds five thousand people. That story isn’t just about fish and bread. It’s about the kind of God we have.

A God who says, “Bring Me what you have, and I’ll take care of the rest.” He didn’t ask for a buffet. He didn’t say, “Come back when you have more.” He said, “I’ll multiply what you bring.” So maybe today, all you can bring is a smile for your kids and a frozen pizza.

Maybe it’s just showing up at your job even though you didn’t sleep last night.

Maybe it’s calling your grown child even though you’re not sure how to connect anymore.

Maybe it’s praying in the car because that’s the only quiet time you get.

Bring it anyway. God can work with that.

Let Go of the Guilt Blanket

We carry guilt like it’s a weighted blanket we never asked for but feel obligated to snuggle under. Guilt that we yelled. Guilt that we missed a recital. Guilt that we don’t always feel grateful for this season we’re in. Guilt that we sometimes want to run away and live alone in a cabin with no Wi-Fi.

Can I gently tell you something?

You are human.

And God knew that when He called you. He knew you would stumble. He knew you’d get tired. He knew you’d question yourself.

And He still said, “You’re the one.”

So let go of the guilt. Lay it down. Trust that the God who made you, loves you, and calls you, also carries you.

The Palm of His Hand

You are not alone in this. You’re not carrying plates by yourself. You are held. You are loved. And you are enough because He is enough.

That thing you’re worrying about...your marriage, your kids, your finances, your parents, your career, your health...He sees it. He’s already in it.

Scripture says that He holds us in the palm of His hand. That means He’s not far off, sitting on some cloud with a clipboard grading your performance.

No...He’s close. Intimate. Present.

And if He loves your people more than you do (which He does), then you can trust Him to care for them in ways you never could. Not because you’re failing, but because He never will.

Let This Be the Week

So here’s your challenge this week:

Let go just a little.

Breathe a little deeper.

When the thoughts creep in saying “I’m not doing enough. I’m not good enough. I’m not equipped for this, " answer back with truth:

God fills in the gaps.

Let it be your anchor. Say it when you’re late. Say it when you forget the dentist appointment. Say it when your teenager slams the door. Say it when the tears come for no reason. Say it when you’re doing your best and it still doesn’t feel like enough.

God fills in the gaps.

One Final Reminder

You were never meant to do this life perfectly. You were never meant to be everything.

You were meant to walk with the One who is.

So show up. Do your best. Laugh at the chaos. Cry when you need to. Ask for help. Take naps. Hug your people.

And trust, deep in your bones, that God sees it all and He will fill in the gaps.
